The weight scale has been around for over 2000 years. Humans adapted to using a scale for weighing themselves in the 1700s. The scale has become a tool that humans have grown to trust in measuring body weight. Over time, there have been new scientific discoveries that have shown that the weight on the scale is not what we should rely upon. There are several reasons that the weight that we see on the scale should be taken with a grain of salt for weight loss. A measuring tape is another method of gathering your body fat and composition, but it takes time to do this. Unless your waist is the only thing that you are measuring. One of the latest technologies for measuring body weight is the full-body scanner this is also known as Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). This is something that can only be done in a clinic. The full-body scan is a faster way to get measurements, full-body fat percentage, and is more accurate than just getting on a scale at home.
There are many ways of checking your body fat percentage. If you are interested in learning more ways of doing so. Then check out one of my sources of weight loss information; Healthline “The 10 Best Ways to Measure Your Body Fat Percentage” Some are critical of the full-body scanner technology if you would like to read more check out “Should you track your fat with a whole-body scan? Many experts would say no, but WSJ coverage lacked a critical voice”
If you have ever done or if you have ever looked into having a body scan, you have seen that it can be costly. The Halo Band by Amazon is an economical alternative to gaining insight into your body composition.
Body scan at home
The Halo Band app has given us the opportunity to do a full-body scan in the privacy of our home. Without the hassle of making an appointment and paying upwards of hundreds of dollars that most insurances may refuse to cover. (Keep in mind that the scan is based on the surface of your body.)
The body composition scanner analyzes the images taken to give an overall body fat percentage. After you have completed the scan, the Halo app will then analyze and factor in your height to produce a 3D avatar from the chin down. Depending on your scan, your avatar will show your fat percentage.
To perform the body scan could take a few adjustments in getting it right. Below is a list of the steps to take when getting ready and performing your full body scan.
Getting started step by step
Once you are ready to start the body scan simply open the Halo app up to find the place that said “Body” to get set up to begin the scan.
Then, tap the button “GET STARTED”, the app will take you to a place that will say “Find a well-lit area” (This is where instructions will start). Once you are ready to continue next tap “I’m Ready” on the green button. Then, “Change into minimal clothing.”

Final Thoughts
Reading about how a full-body scan works in a clinic and along with my experience on the Halo app, I have concluded that the Halo scan seems more focused on Subcutaneous Fat than Visceral Fat. “The Most Accurate Method of Measuring Body Fat & Visceral Fat” is a good place in reading the differences between Subcutaneous Fat than Visceral Fat.
